Unreleased Vinyl Project

submotion.co.ukUnreleased Vinyl Project

A) Submotion Orchestra - It's Not Me It's You (Alix Perez Rmx)
B) Planas - Breathtaking feat Ed Thomas (dBridge Soul Steppers Rmx)
UVP001
Release Date: 19.04.2014 (Record Store Day)

The ‘Unreleased Vinyl Project’ is a brand new record label breaking the rules and fighting back against the digital revolution. UVP will be releasing exclusive tracks on vinyl that were formerly only available to download. In recent years people have been giving up on vinyl and digitalising their record collection. UVP are doing the opposite and re-mastering digital only releases to ltd edition 12" wax to fight back against the war on vinyl. The label will launch on Record Store Day (19th April 2014) to emphasize the importance of this release to the vinyl enthusiasts. The first release features 2 remixes from the acclaimed drum & bass producers dBridge and Alix Perez from Exit & Shogun Audio respectively, which both have already received great support.

Submotion Orchestra - It's Not Me It's You (Alix Perez Rmx)
London/Leeds-based seven piece Submotion Orchestra commissioned Alix Perez to remix their excellent track ‘It’s Not Me It’s You’ - the first single taken from their second album. Following a series of critically acclaimed releases on legendary labels such as Metalheadz, V recordings, Soul:R and Shogun Audio, Alix Perez is regarded by many as one of the most ground breaking and innovative producer-DJs of his generation. After the success of his albums ‘1984’ and ‘Chroma Chords’ we are now anticipating the release of his new EP ‘U’ on Exit Records, after label boss dBridge signed the prodigal son of D&B.

Planas - Breathtaking feat Ed Thomas (dBridge Soul Steppers Rmx)
Planas a producer, musician & label manager at Ranking Records creates bass-driven music usually around dubstep tempo. He is also known as Landlord, Tarqwin Smythe, one half of Seemore Productions, and as bass player/producer for Gentleman's Dub Club. With a string of releases on Exceptional, Ranking and Immerse, Planas enlisted the head honcho at Exit Records to remix the lovely soulful track ‘Breathtaking’ feat vocalist Ed Thomas. The result was amazing and UVP just had to press it to vinyl. dBridge is a drum and bass producer whose career has stretched from the early days of the genre's conception back in the early 1990s including mainstream success as part of Future Forces, Bad Company & Autonomic and recently Heartdrive. Fast forward to 2014 dBridge is constantly exploring the potential of drum & bass and staying several steps ahead of the rest, leading the charge at the helm of his seminal record label Exit Records.

Eyeline
01. Blocks and Escher Remix
02. Original Mix

London/Leeds-based seven piece Submotion Orchestra return with Blocks and Escher's remix of Eyeline - taken from their critically acclaimed second album Fragments.

One of the jewels of Submotion Orchestra’s highly acclaimed Fragments album – Eyeline – gets the remix treatment courtesy of fast rising stars Blocks and Escher. Make no mistake this is one hot remix and is already being tipped for big things by Friction, Goldie and Fabio with play on Radio 1, 1xtra and Rinse to match.

Over the space of two years Blocks and Escher have grown from being acclaimed newcomers and solo artists to establishing themselves amongst Drum and Bass' most exciting and sought after producers. Having released music on the scene's biggest labels in Digital Sound boy and Renegade Hardware, 2012 saw the launch of their own label Narratives Music and within its first year the accolades of Single of the Year (EDJ) and a spot in BBC Radio 1's tracks of the year.

With remixes forthcoming on some of electronic music most revered labels and affiliations with the likes of Metalheadz and Critical Music, the uncompromising sound of Blocks and Escher does not look likely to wane yet.

Submotion Orchestra - Thinking - The Single Out Now

DOWNLOAD FROM: iTUNES

find out moreSubmotion Orchestra - Thinking’
On Exceptional Blue records

Thinking - Tracklisting:
01. Radio Edit
02. Uggs and Barbour Remix
03. Mark Knight Remix

London/Leeds-based seven piece Submotion Orchestra return with Thinking - the third single taken from their critically acclaimed second album Fragments.

Thinking kicks off with easy-going yet somehow frenetic high hat, all tight beats and ghost hits, imploring the foot to tap. This effortlessly cool and funky electronic track combines well-placed synths and live drums with Ruby Wood’s soulful vocals, cleverly chopped and produced, combined with close harmony backing vocals calling and echoing the refrain ‘I’ve been thinking ‘bout you’. Remixes come from Uggs & Barbour and Mark Knight.
Uggs and Barbour have created a remix which somehow defies classification. Safe to say this mystery mix is worthy of further investigation and will not disappoint.

Remix number two comes from Grammy nominated artist, Mark Knight, who is responsible for some of the biggest dance records of the last decade. His signature sound blurs the boundaries between mainstream and underground and has propelled his revered imprint, Toolroom Records, to world domination. As a producer, Mark has built a reputation for outstanding releases, consistently topping international dance charts with timeless anthems; You Got The Love (Mark Knight remix), Man With The Red Face, Downpipe, Conscindo, Good Times, Devil Walking, Alright… the list is endless. As a DJ, Mark holds international prominence, with his ‘Toolroom Knights’ residencies regularly hosted at Space-Ibiza, Ministry Of Sound-London, Cocoon-Frankfurt, Club Space-Miami, and at key festivals including SW4 London, Global Gathering UK and Dance Valley Netherlands.

"Intriguing - one to keep an eye on" BBC.co.uk
London/Leeds-based seven piece Submotion Orchestra release their eagerly anticipated second album Fragments this week.

Bass, rhythm and soul are still paramount, but from the first few bars of Intro, with its Philip Glass-meets Penguin Café pianos, its clearly evident that the band have broadened their musical palate. Its also also clear they've made this expansion sound effortlessly captivating - ready to melt minds and bassbins alike.

"In making 'Fragments', we started to stretch out from the template of the first album", explains keyboardist Taz Modi. "There's a lot more colour and moods on this record; strings, woodwind and various new synth textures. We followed our noses to see where they'd lead us. There should be enough here to satisfy fans of 'Finest Hour', but hopefully there'll be quite a bit to surprise them as well."

Blind Spot maintains the lush, expansive sound that made the band's name and adds subtle new flourishes. It takes what was already a sweepingly cinematic blueprint and goes one step bigger and better. With a gauzy synth weaved throughout the mix, you get the feint suggestion of chillwave being on the band's tourbus playlist.

Thinking perfectly captures an uplifting summer sunshine, currently missing from our shores. Gnarly bass purrs underneath tight and crisp rhythms, with Ruby Wood's honeyed vocals poured liberally on top. By Bird Of Prey things take a turn down a strange and eerie vista; heavy drama meets the cosmic and cerebral, with a hint of Herbie Hancock-style electronic jazz funk.

Wigged-out live favourite Times Strange features the album's only guest vocal, courtesy of Rider Shafique, whose limber lyrics ride over a warped, 50s Sci Fi analogue tone. The darkly psychedelic, growling-bass-opus Thousand Yard Stare epitomizes the album's psych-electronic side, whilst maintaining fully firing live drums, strings and brass.

Fragments ends on the reflective note of Coming Up For Air, with perhaps the least anticipated addition to the mix; its waves of distorted, electronic dissonance are redolent of more low-fi and laptop-based dance music.

Last year Submotion Orchestra released their debut LP Finest Hour. An army of fervert fans formed, resulting in sell-out shows, including London's Scala. They were met with widespread critical acclaim, plus heavy Radio 1, 6music, 1xtra, Resonance, NME Radio, and club support.

Cornelia - Stormy Weather OUT NOW

find out moreSwedish musical force of nature Cornelia presents Stormy Weather on Exceptional Blue / Camp Mozart records.

"Wicked" Portico Quartet
"Wow! So sick! Some hot new talent" Scratcha DVA
"One of the most inventive and forward looking vocalists out there. Perfectly pitched leftfield pop and full of surprises" Jamie Woon
"A charming voice" Jose Gonzalez

Tracklisting:

2. Stormy Weather - Daisuke remix
3: Aquarius Dreams -Circle Traps remix

Although no two of Cornelia's inventive records sound the same, Stormy Weather exemplifies her eerily beautiful, off-kilter electronic pop and sweet, spectral vocals.

Her voice and originality has won friends in high places: in a short space of time, Cornelia penned a song for Markus Enochson (Sonar Kollektiv), plus she wrote and sung on Steepless, taken from the highly-acclaimed Portico Quartet album.

If that wasn't enough of an auspicious start, Cornelia also wowed the bass lynchpin Scratcha DVA, who invited her to perform on his Rinse FM Grimey Breakfast Show. She then co wrote, produced and sung on Pretty Ugly (the title track from DVA's debut album), which was described by Mary Anne Hobbs as "a beautiful track with a dazzling sound". Super producer-songwriter Guy Sigsworth (who has worked with Björk, Goldie and David Sylvian) exclaimed her to be "wonderful".

Cornelia Dahlgren participated in the first season of Swedish Idol in but dropped out of the show in the final stages upon deciding the manufactured approach wasn't for her. As a result she founded the label Camp Mozart and began crafting esoteric and elemental sounds.

Planas - Better Days - Out Now

buy from iTunes
Tracklist: 1. Better Days (original mix)

Buy from iTunes and Beatport

Toby Davies (Planas) follows up the much acclaimed and heavily rotated Breathtaking single with his third release for Exceptional Blue label: Better Days.

Better Days shows Planas in full party mode. A merger of 80's drums, lurching, distorted bass stabs and euphoric vintage rack synth chords, Better Days looks both backwards and forwards at the same time, harnessing the feel good sounds of the eighties and nineties and mashing them together with cutting edge production techniques and a mammoth slab of sub bass.
Linn drum tom fills and wailing guitar lead lines punctuate this instrumental piece, which, after a goosebump-inspiring intro quickly develops into an intergalactic space funk explosion that's like standing under a waterfall of pure sonic joy.

The main themes and motifs reoccur, evolving and weaving together with ease, showing Planas as both a master musician and master producer. Fans of Rustie, Hudson Mohawke and David Hasselhoff will definitely dig.

In other news Planas has been typically busy recently remixing the Foreign Beggars track Flying To Mars which was released on 2nd July through the esteemed Mau5trap Records whilst the Planas mix of Finest Hour by Exceptional Blue labelmates Submotion Orchestra has reached over 200,000 YouTube views.

Better Days is taken from the First Planas album The Long Game due for release later this year.

Stepping forward with their own juicy take on the track are True Tiger a UK based production/DJ collective who have been producing and DJ ing since 2004. With over 20 singles released on their own label, True Tiger recordings, they recently produced Jungle one of the highlights from Professor Green's debut album. Submotion Orchestra - It's Not Me It's You - OUT NOW

This step that step London/Leeds-based seven piece Submotion Orchestra return with It's Not Me It's You - the first single taken from their forthcoming second album.

BUY FROM ITUNES

"Stunning" The Guardian
"Seductive" The Times
"Towering, exhilarating and often beautiful" Mixmag
"An object of desire" Metro
"Submotion orchestra are on the rise, and for good reason" Q
"Excellent vehicles for Ruby Wood?s soulful vocals" Uncut
"They carry both the funk and the groove into new dimensions" The Word
"Intriguing - one to keep an eye on" BBC.co.uk

"The new album is shaping up to be a blinder, and we were hard at work finishing it off before the March tour", says Submotion keyboardist Taz Modi. "There are things that should both satisfy fans of the first album, and surprise them too. Hopefully 'It's Not Me It's You' will do both."

It's Not Me It's You maintains the band's signature combination of smoking-hot vocals and bass music played live, whilst also upping the electronic element. More importantly, the track sees the band moving away from more cerebral soundscapes and into the realm of a crossover-friendly club anthem in waiting.

Marrying a singalong chorus, Todd Edwards-style chopped vocals and post dubstep with the warmth and musicality of soul-jazz, It's Not Me It's You is the track destined to propel Submotion Orchestra beyond their base of plentiful press admirers and fans into the hearts of a wider audience.

For anyone who bizarrely isn't up to speed on the Submotion phenomena, here's a brief re-cap: Having captivated revellers with their frenetic live dubstep spectacle, the band became firm festival favourites, wowing crowds at Glastonbury, Bestival The Big Chill, Latitude, Secret Garden and Outlook in Croatia. Last year the band released their debut album Finest Hour, plus singles All Yours and Always. They were met with widespread critical acclaim, plus heavy Radio 1, 6music, 1xtra and NME Radio support.

Highlighting their broad appeal, DJ support has come a diverse selection of jocks including Laurent Garnier, Oneman (Rinse) DJ Flight (Metalheadz/Rinse), Simbad (Defected), Tayo (Kiss), plus Ashley Beedle and Rocky. Submotion Orchestra sold out every date on their large venue headline tour which culminated in a triumphant gig at London's XOYO.
