Exceptional News

Hello there folks, welcome to the exceptional records site...

EXCEPTIONAL LIVE IN LEEDS
We've decided to make the trip up North for a special night of the finest breaks and electronic music. Taking place at the Mint Club in Leeds on Thursday 8th May, the night will feature fine artists from our Exceptional roster alongside DJ's and guests from the local area and further afield. Our very own The Rogue Element will be on hand to deliver top-quality upfront breakbeat cuts and storming electro action. Nursery Of Naughtiness, who have been making waves with their razor sharp blend of tough leftfield sounds, add a live element to the show. Expect a dazzling array of big beats, live guitars, synths and chunky helpings of bass.

The night will also feature live electro/dub from Leeds' Alpha Drive and a future roots sound system set from Link. Its all shaping up to be an eventful evening, so be there or miss out ! Doors open at 10pm...

MORE RAZOR-SHARP BEATS FROM NURSERY OF NAUGHTINESS
Those Nursery boys are at it again - The Lesson 3 EP delivers three steaming tracks which will undoubtedly rattle your brain, wiggle your knees and do interesting things to any other movable body parts you may have.

The EP kicks off in fine style with The Requiem (aka Sitars are Go !) featuring a rather splendid sitar refrain linked with a relentless electronic riff which delivers the goods in true Naughtiness style.

Also on offer we have The Collision, which dives straight in at the deep end delivering a truckload of thundering beats, and The Nameless, which is a tricky little blighter combining a snatch of guitar, a pinch of vocals and a healthy seasoning of electronics to make a deceptively catchy track.

BUTTI 49 ARE FLYIN' HIGH
Following the very warmly-received release of Alan Accelerates (the good guys over at DJ Mag reckoned the track was "positively stunning jazz business built to wreck "), the Butti 49 guys return to the fold with another hot selection of new remixes, lovingly presented together for your listening pleasure.

Flying is undoubtedly one of our favourite cuts from the duo's Habit album - a smooth, slinky and seductive track which carries its depth and quality with deceptive ease. This remix bundle sees all round renegade and wild man King Knut turn in a surprisingly lanquid take on the track - in fact we could go as far as to say it's a downtempo gem. Meanwhile Cosa Nostra step in and up the tempo by a notch or three for a vibrant and dynamic re-working. Both versions successfully combine the tricky tasks of bringing together a fresh take on the music without totally losing sight of the original.

The package is rounded off by the ever-so-rare first version, which the '49ers originally considered putting out before eventually deciding on the (arguably more polished) album mix of the track. Flying featuring the distinctive and sublime vocals of Emo, is available exclusively on digital download from those fine people at Beatport > click here

THE GLORIOUS RETURN OF PLEJ
At exceptional HQ we've been knocked out by the response to the return of Plej, following their hiatus spent locked away in the studio! The good news is our favourite Swedes are back to prove that last Autumn’s warmly received single Safe Place was no flash in the pan.

The duo present two more prime cuts to tickle your fancy. Borderline is a lush instrumental track full of Plej's trademark flourishes, while Freaks is an affectionate tribute by mainman Arvid to his punk roots. Meanwhile Borderline has also been taken on by remixers of the moment Mock & Toof, who have delivered a sublime disco-tinged version. Cosmic stuff.

Borderline/Freaks is available to download at Beatport and iTunes right now.

The new EP has also just been featured in the well-respected DMC Update, and they reckon that on the evidence of these two tunes, the upcoming album should be something of a mind-blower!

BLUPRINT - THE NEXT STEP...

Many of you may remember Bluprint, the Devon-based collective who came to the public's attention with two high-quality albums on exceptional, showcasing a unique blend of contemporary jazz and downtempo sounds. Unfortunately Bluprint have since disbanded, but we're proud to announce we've just signed Baqua - a collaboration between multi-instrumentalist and producer James Millman, formerly of Bluprint, and vocalist Delia, whose soulful vocals were featured on their Sleeping Giant album.

You can get a taster of the Baqua sound over at their MySpace profile - www.myspace.com/baqua. If you like what you hear, please take a second to vote for them to play the Main Stage at the Sunrise Celebration festival, which takes place in Somerset at the end of May.

MORE DANCEFLOOR ACTION FROM CLOUD
First up we've got another chunky helping of minimal bleeps 'n' beats from one of Gothenburg's finest emerging talents, Cloud. The intriguingly-titled Hökarängen Space Program EP is available to download right now from the good people at Beatport and iTunes. Featuring two new tracks from our Swedish house hero, the EP has been described by the rather mighty Jimpster as Electronic house of the highest calibre.

You can still catch the video for his well-received single Diamondtrack up on YouTube to hear why Cloud has been attracting attention from some of dance music most discerning fans.

BEN MYNOTT exceptional minimix

The downtempo world's finest Ben Mynott, formerly of Fragile State is back again to present 'An exceptional blend', another taster of the finest music from our exceptional world. Focused as always on the chilled side of our personality, this edition features seven tasty downtempo offerings all lovingly mixed up - and includes exclusive cuts from New Zealander Tubbs and fresh London producer Oblong.
